Bodies in Space, Spaces in Motion

Course Dancing & Making

Date:

Location: The Hague

This course explores the close connection and fascinating coordination between our movement and spatial perception as a fundamental element of dancing and making improvised pieces

Using the breath, the joints or interior pathways as an entry into moving connects us to the spatial nature of our body, its volume, weight and buoyancy. With an increasing awareness for our inner bodily landscape, we also perceive our relationship with the surrounding space more easily.
Noticing how the different facets of the space inspire our actions, enriches the way howwe move and listen to the material we create. The practice focuses on dancing as a way to expand one’s spatial abilities such as orientation, spatial imagination and responsiveness.
The aim is to experience space as an inherent element of the dancing body and to compose with it when making dances.
