A performance in which the interplay of movement and sound reveals different layers of time and evokes images that resonate with the spirit and memories of the space.
Tide: Middle English 'time, season; recurring interval, space of time'.
Also, 'the daily fluctuation in the level of the sea caused by the gravitational influence of the moon and the sun'.
TIDE reflects on the passage of time uncovering the marks of change and impermanence present in all aspects of our life.
The performance is designed for spaces that often have a distinctive character, as they were used for craft or industrial purposes in the past and are now resisting gentrification. These spaces are characterized by a sense of impermanence, almost as fleeting as a real-time performance itself.
At a time when many of these unique places are disappearing, we feel the urge to inhabit them with our bodies and instruments. Creating dance and music in these spaces is a way to not only keep them alive in the present moment, but also to carry their energy and raw beauty with us as a memory, honoring their story and existence.
Gaston Bachelard writes “….We reach a point where we doubt that we ever lived where we lived (…) This house, as I see it, is sort of an airy structure that moves about on the breath of time. It really is open to the wind of another time. (…) The universe comes to inhabit the house.”
